Peter Versus Judas
My YouTube channel
Who would you choose as a possible pattern? A homework assignment; read Matthew 26:69 to Matthew 27:5; Mark 16:7.
Our Standard is CHRIST, but in some situations who has taken his place, Peter or Judas?
In the texts we invite you to read, we see two situations of shame for two followers of JESUS.
Important points:
1. There was love in Peter’s heart for the LORD JESUS
Pedro: Impulsive but sincere man. He always had words to say. He was part of the three most important in JESUS's ministerial circle. Peter understood that eternal life could only exist in JESUS. Peter said when the crowd abandoned him for his hard speech: eat my flesh and drink my blood, Peter said: LORD, to whom shall we go? Only You have words of eternal life (John 6:68). Peter had his ears wide open and always heard the voice of GOD. As soon as JESUS asked who do men say that I am? And JESUS, wanting to know the opinion of the disciples, immediately anticipated Peter and said: “You are the CHRIST, the SON of the Living GOD” (Matthew 16:13-17).
2. Peter fought against the men who wanted to arrest JESUS. Do you still have doubts about Peter’s love for JESUS? He even struck a man by cutting off his ear. Malchus, servant of the High Priest (John 18:10).
3. Peter denied CHRIST, but in his heart there was an open door for GOD's forgiveness to enter. But why did Peter deny JESUS? The answer is: fear. We will still see Peter following JESUS to see what would happen to him, and that is precisely where everything will fall apart. John takes Peter to the court of judgment accompanying JESUS. One of the servants recognized him. Pedro failed terribly, miserably. Peter denied JESUS, but left the courtyard of betrayal to weep bitterly, terrible tears fall from his eyes, tears of shame. The Bible does not say whether Peter immediately tells his fellow disciples what he did. The important thing is that he returns to socializing with his brothers. The Gospel of Mark was the first to be written and the main source for Mark was precisely Peter. We can see Mark report the word of the angel when he said after the resurrection of JESUS to those women there in the tomb to speak to the disciples and Peter. His name is highlighted here. And it says that JESUS is going ahead of you to Galilee. In the text of John 2:17, JESUS for the third time asks Peter if he loves Him “You know everything, You know that I love You... What a unique moment! JESUS gives Peter the greatest responsibility, he pastures, he takes care of my sheep. The best that JESUS had, he entrusted to Peter, his Church.
Let’s now see three points about Judas
1. Judas loved money more than JESUS. Like the other disciples, he was with JESUS for three and a half years. He had high regard for JESUS. How would he be during his ministry, this period, if he didn't love and respect Him? He was trustworthy before everyone, he became the treasurer of this ministry. Unfortunately there was a terrible problem with that heart, it was a terrible flaw. Money was above JESUS. His love for money transcended his love for JESUS. This cursed love turned him into a thief, something that we believe already existed in his heart. The signs are always noticeable. I take this opportunity to ask you now: who are you in a relationship with? Watch the signs. Judas also left a sign. When Mary poured that very expensive perfume on the feet of JESUS (a year's worth of work), Judas immediately shouted: what a waste! Why wasn't it sold and given to the poor? His interest was certainly not in the poor, only in his pocket, as he already collected money for himself from the collection.
2. He will hand over Master JESUS to the Pharisees, to the soldiers. A completely profitable plan. Perhaps he had in his heart the possibility that, as he had already seen JESUS escape at other times, who knows, the same thing would happen. He would keep the money, no one would know and JESUS would be unharmed. But his plan was frustrated. This time, JESUS did not dodge through the crowd, escaping. JESUS did not make fire come down from heaven, nor did he make them blind, JESUS was condemned!
3. Judas did not open the door for JESUS' forgiveness, he did not give time, he simply took his life, (remorse) for betraying a true friend.
Pay attention to these two stories, these characters. Observe their lives, failures and responses to the situations they experience. Judas did not give JESUS the opportunity to choose to forgive him, even though at the moment of betrayal, he still said: what did you come for, friend? He himself closed the door to redemption, to reconciliation with GOD.
JESUS has His ways of working in us. You say you don't deserve to be saved, but JESUS wants to save you. Forgiving yourself without deserving his forgiveness.
Never distance yourself from your brothers, from the people of GOD. Give JESUS the opportunity to do what HE does perfectly. And what does Sister Missionary Help of Christians Freitas do that JESUS does perfectly? Reconcile sinners to himself.
Surrender yourself to GOD, tell JESUS your sins, receive His forgiveness and reconciliation.
With love in Christ,
Missionary Help of Christians Freitas
