The blind man of Bethsaida — learn a lesson for your life and live winning!
Mark 8:22-26
22 “Then they came to Bethsaida. And they brought to him a blind man, and begged him to touch him. Bethsaida means house of fishing, located northeast of the Sea of Galilee.”
23 “JESUS therefore took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the village, and spitting in his eyes and laying his hands on him, said to him: Do you see anything?”
24 “And he lifted up his eyes and said: I see men; for I see them walking like trees.”
25 “Then he laid his hands on his eyes again; and he, looking attentively, was restored, for he saw all things clearly.”
26 “Then he sent him home, saying: But do not enter the village.”
The first miracle here is JESUS giving him vision. JESUS wants men to see Him not just as someone who performs miracles, but as the Redeemer of humanity.
JESUS has authority in the physical world, but he makes it clear that through faith he can give everyone who wants the eternal vision of a life with HIM and this by faith.
The second point: It can be compared to His disciples too, the spiritual vision inherent in man and the need for healing also like that blind man who was healed in two stages. Let us understand that His disciples throughout the Gospel of Mark can only partially understand JESUS. But these men now have the understanding that they could understand their Master in a complete vision. Thirdly: everyone must identify with this blind man. Due to the fall of Adam we were born with the illness called sin. This curse has been with us since conception. Everyone is born spiritually blind. We do not clearly see the great truths of the Gospel. We cannot free ourselves from this blindness. Someone needs to help us. You needed someone to lead you to JESUS. You must now understand that you have the responsibility to lead others to JESUS so that they too can be healed from this spiritual illness. You can't heal, you can't save, but you can take these to JESUS and HE will heal them, save them. This blind man came to JESUS, taken by his friends. And what was the result? It was his wonderful healing.
1. The cure was carried out in two stages: V 22 we see that his friends took him to JESUS. What did JESUS do? He took him out of the village, put saliva in his eyes and then laid his hands on him. JESUS then asked him if he could see. He replied that he saw people as trees walking. JESUS never leaves His work unfinished, believe me! THE LORD JESUS puts his hands on his eyes and now he sees clearly. There was another special moment when JESUS heals another blind man by putting saliva and tells him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. JESUS, perhaps he wanted to strengthen that man's faith. Your healing or solving difficult situations in stages, the secret is not to give up. Who knows, maybe you need to be renewed in your faith to better see the power of GOD? We need to be renewed at this time. We need to be healed of spiritual weakness and sins so that we can better see the perfect plan for our lives from now on.
2. JESUS had compassion on that man. Yes, HE had compassion, but it was necessary for someone to make it reach HIM. Our GOD, JESUS, had strong compassion for that man and answered his friends' plea. When the man said he saw men as trees, JESUS did not leave him there, partially healed. He continued to work on that life until complete healing. When you have a problem, take it to JESUS in prayer and trust that he will listen and take care of you.
3. JESUS wants to open our spiritual and also physical eyes, do you believe? No one comes to JESUS on their own. There are exceptions because HE operates as he wants. My mother was saved, allow me to tell you in brief. She was involved in spiritualism at the age of seven. She was playing with dolls when she fell ill and was taken by those responsible to a neighbor's house who said she was a medium and needed to develop. So my dear mother was involved in spiritualism, in Candomblé. I remember very well that I gave consultations. We lived in poverty, but never charged a penny. Years passed and When he was about to make a “holy” decision, GOD gave him three dreams. She saw JESUS with a lamb in his arms and said: daughter, abandon this path. She woke up and ran to the person in charge of the center and then he said that it was the devil for her not to shave her head, how ironic. The other week the LORD appeared to her again in a dream and said daughter, don't follow that path, she woke up, but did not take any action until in the third week, close to the ritual taking place, This Kind Shepherd came once again and in a dream this time he said you: daughter, if you don't abandon this path it will be too late. I remember seeing her get out of bed, breaking everything she had in the service of the spirits. On that Saturday it would happen, like a party at the São Bartolomeu waterfall in the suburbs of our city. They sent for my mother, who immediately said that she would no longer be part of those things. ‘Santo’s’ father (owner of the terreiro) said that if she didn’t go, he would send an Exu to take her out of the house and take her there. And the worst thing is that he said she would come out looking crazy and naked. Did this happen? Of course not, hallelujah! It was a wonderful day at home because there were fights day and night between my father, her, my grandmother, terrible things I witnessed. But JESUS rescued her. Soon after, she bought an evangelical book, the person who sold it began to preach the Word and glory to GOD, she left for eternity at the age of eighty-four, in the presence of our GOD. She always remembered that when she was five years old, a very elderly man asked to take her to church and sometimes the family allowed it. She briefly attended the First Baptist Church of Brazil in Baixa dos Sapateiros (Barroquinha) in Salvador-Bahia, but I believe that the HOLY SPIRIT was already taking care of her. Then we can see GOD act to save lives. But someone needed to help her on her way. Let us be those who lead souls to the feet of the LORD JESUS. As this third topic says: JESUS wants to open our eyes. HE uses His instruments. Be that instrument leading others to HIM. The process may be gradual, but we must persevere with faith on this journey. Believe me, JESUS will never give up. HE certainly always completes the work he started. Can you feel His touch again now? HE is perfecting the process in us, HE will complete His good work, hallelujah! Let JESUS touch you several times on your journey if necessary, but may the moment come when your spiritual eyes clearly see His eternal plans for your life.
