The weight of the burden What to do? A task for you: read meditatively the Gospel of JESUS written by Luke in chapter 13 verses 10 to 17. We often feel overwhelmed. The weight on our shoulders seems unbearable. Do you know that JESUS felt this way too? HE went through this too. In Matthew 27:32, JESUS carried that heavy cross in our place. A terrible burden, requiring someone to help Him. There was a man, a Cyrenian. There is also a lesson to learn here, the humility of needing and accepting help at certain times in our lives. Here now it is not JESUS nor the Cyrenian. It's you and me, as well as everyone who has a great burden on their shoulders. On the other side are those willing to help. In some moments you and I may be on either side. Once, JESUS met a woman who was oppressed by the devil and could not stand up, she was always bent over as if with a great burden on her back. JESUS will give the diagnosis to that spiritual cause and free her and then she immediately straightens up, glorifying GOD. Who can lift from our shoulders the innumerable burdens that are always upon us, or at least one great and terrible burden? They are probably invisible to many, but you know them and feel them. These burdens often prevent you from even lifting your face to GOD. Matthew 11:28-30 The Holy Word of GOD, the Bible, says this: 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. What is the burden or burdens that are upon you? • Burden of sin? Psalm 38:4 says: 4 For my iniquities have submerged my head; like a heavy load they exceed my strength. Only in JESUS will you have relief from this burden called sin.
• Burden of terrible worries? Matthew 6:25,34: 25 Therefore I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor, as to your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing? 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow; because tomorrow will take care of itself. Every day is enough for your evil. Excessive worries about the future exhaust the human being, bills to pay, etc.
• Burden of religiosity? Matthew 23:4: 4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they don't even want to move them with their fingers. We can see JESUS here dealing with Mosaic rites, just religiosity.
• Burdens of responsibilities? Galatians 6:5:5 For everyone will bear his own burden. Yes, it's his, it's on his shoulders, but he can count on someone's help so that at some point he will be free from it. You can find in me the person who will help you, through the Word, through advice, through prayer. But the Word also tells us in Galatians 6:2: 2 Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the Law of CHRIST. But there is one who can take and completely remove the burden from us, JESUS. See what your responsibilities truly are. Delegate tasks within the family. Don't make commitments thoughtlessly, this can also become a heavy burden. Psalm 68:19 says: 19 Blessed be the LORD, who daily bears our burden, the GOD who is our salvation. Don't forget the task of reading the Gospel of Luke 13:10 to 17 today.
