WANT TO BE A BLESSING? SO BE! GOD wants you to truly be a blessing. Genesis 12:1-3 Then the LORD said to Abram, "Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's house, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you a great people and bless you. I will make your name famous, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless him, and I will curse those who curse him; and through you all the peoples of the earth will be blessed. Key text: v. 2 "I will make you a great people and I will bless you. I will make your name famous, and you will be a blessing." (Be thou a blessing!). Having the faith of our father of faith, Abraham, is a glorious thing. Believe me, this man’s life truly is a great example for every Christian. As Abraham became a blessing to all the families of the earth, so our GOD wants us to be blessings, as he was. How has your obedience been before GOD? Have you approached GOD today to ask him for a blessing? We're always asking, aren't we? this is not wrong. What's wrong with that? none. Now dear reader, pay attention. Stop and think, you can be a blessing today for many and even for future generations. What matters most to you, having or being? When called by GOD, Abraham had his life. He was a mature man, married, without children, living among his relatives. It is precisely here in chapter 12 that we will find the origin of the nation formed by people who believe in GOD. For years GOD has had a relationship with man in a generalized way, but here that will change. HE will choose a man. Has GOD chosen you in this generation to be a blesser? Look at the imperative form that GOD used towards Abraham: BE you a blessing! GOD didn't tell him to have a blessing. Let us not invert the values of the Kingdom of GOD with the values of this world. The values of the Kingdom of GOD are: love, kindness, generosity, dedication. And what are the values of this world? materialism, selfishness, consumerism, greed, evil and so on, this extensive list. I ask you again: to be or to have? To be a blessing or to have a blessing? Being a blessing implies loving GOD above all things and the others that we will bless with our own lives, with our existence. How can we be a blessing? We can learn from Abraham himself.
1. Get out of this comfort, this apparently comfortable life. GOD will definitely change this stability through His challenges and believe me, you will glorify His name later, even if you don't understand it now. By faith, now leave that “comfort” zone in some area of your life.
2. Desire a life totally governed by GOD. Your faith in HIM will demand it from you, in fact it will demand it from us because this word is for everyone. It will require determination in our attitudes, in our values, in our priorities. There must be total obedience and submission to the LORD.
3. Show obedience to GOD in His Word with both your faith and your love. John 15:14 JESUS says, "You are my friends if you do what I command you." Finally, what does it mean to be a blessing? It involves looking at others and not just ourselves.
Proverbs 22:9 "He who sees with kind eyes will be blessed; for he gives of his bread to the poor." If we only think about ourselves, we will be selfish and we will not be able to be a blessing, as we will forget about our neighbors. Anyone who is a blessing is certainly a person richly blessed by GOD, because they will reveal a generous, altruistic character, just like CHRIST himself who gave himself to bless everyone with such a great salvation. More than being blessed, our GOD calls you and me now to be a blessing. Our focus should never be on the blessings we wish to have, but on being what GOD wants us to be. And what does GOD want us to be? HE wants us to be a blessing to the world. Don't keep the blessings for yourself, don't keep the blessings that the FATHER gives you just for yourself. Be a blessing channel for at least everyone around you, such as: friends, relatives and even strangers. Ask GOD through reading His Word, through prayer, how you can bless lives. From this understanding we can leave a legacy for future generations. Never forget that someone who is a blesser will always be remembered.
Like Abraham, you are being challenged right now by GOD himself to be a blessing. You understood? HE wants it to be a blessing in His hands as opposed to having blessings. Yet you will be rich in His blessings as Abraham was. Be a blessing and live winning!
With love in Christ,
